Why Isn’t My Auto AC Blowing Cold Air?

There’s nothing worse than having a failing air conditioning system in your car at the peak of the summer. One day it seems to be working just fine, and the next it’s only blowing warm air. Before you attempt to fix the problem yourself, it’s best to learn all of the potential reasons why this could be happening. Ultimately, you might end up having to go to an auto repair shop in Madison, TN to have your car’s AC repaired by a professional. Here are some possible issues you might be running into.

There’s a Leak in the Freon Hose

One of the most common reasons your car’s AC stops blowing out cold air is because of a freon leak. Freon is what’s used to cool the air before it’s released through the vents, and without enough of this chemical, the air will remain warm. A leak would significantly reduce the amount of freon in your car, ultimately preventing your car’s AC from working. A freon leak doesn’t necessarily mean you have to install a new hose, though. If the hole is small enough, the leak will be slow, so adding more freon will likely get you through the summer. However, if you add freon and notice that the warm air returns in just a few weeks, then you’ll have to head to the nearest auto mechanic to replace that hose.

Your Car’s Air Conditioner Needs Recharging

If you start to feel that your car’s air conditioning system is losing its power, it may be due to it needing to be recharged. This is done by adding refrigerant and is often a temporary fix for a larger problem, but it can be a more cost-effective solution. There are several ways in which this can be done at home, but it’s recommended that you have a professional do it for you in order to avoid coming in contact with hazardous liquids that are involved.

A Jammed Blend Air Door

The blend air door is a small door inside your car’s ventilation system that allows you to switch from hot air to cold air. If it gets stuck or jammed, using your controls to turn on your car’s air conditioning system will prove to be useless. It will continue to release hot air, even though you’ve set the vents to release cold air. To repair this, you’ll need to take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic.
